RegGov ECN is the early career network of the ECPR Standing Group on Regulatory Governance (RegGov). Our aim is to serve as an international platform for early career researchers (ECRs) specializing in regulatory governance to:
(1) Engage in career-related conversations, including:
- Publishing and developing a professional career in the field of regulatory governance;
- Networking, collaborating, and co-authoring with senior academics;
- Navigating the increasingly competitive job market in academia as well as alternative career paths;
- Managing pressures associated with academic work, including those impacting on academic staff wellbeing;
- Promoting positive social and collective action, including for issues related to equality/diversity;
(2) Contribute to the generation of new ideas through activities, such as:
- Scanning the ‘research horizon’ and articulating emerging research themes;
- Revisiting orthodoxies in the field in a constructive manner;
- Collaborating with actors outside of academia, from the private, non-governmental, and civil sector;
- Fostering dialogue with related fields.
RegGov ECN does not require a formal membership application. The only two criteria needed to participate in our activities are that you are:
- An early career researcher (broadly defined);
- Interested, and ideally researching/teaching, in an area related to the broad theme of regulatory governance.
We welcome participation by early career researchers from all over the world, with a particular encouragement for gender and racial diversity and equality.

Early Career Mentoring program
The ECN initiated a mentoring program for early career researchers (ECR) in regulatory studies (broadly construed) to help the career development of ECRs. You are welcome to register if you are a late-stage doctoral researcher and up to five years after completion of your PhD. Every ECR will be matched with a mentor. In this program, you and your Mentor will schedule online meetings at least twice during one year. Webinar on Securing Postdoc Opportunities in Regulatory Governance
In the second half of 2024, the ECN will organize a webinar about the postdoc landscape inRegulatory Governance in Continental Europe, the United Kingdom, North America, LatinAmerica and Oceania. In this event, experienced postdocs and senior academics will sharetheir experiences searching for and applying for relevant opportunities. They will also shed light on academic expectations in different regions and disciplinary considerations duringtheir post-docs. It will also discuss the advantages and challenges of doing aninterdisciplinary postdoc in regulatory governance, a project-based postdoc, and anindependent postdoc.
Meeting the Editor: webinar on publishing in Regulatory Governance
In late 2024, the ECN will organize a webinar on publishing in prominent regulatorygovernance journals. We will invite the editors to share information about the journal, thepublication process, and advice for ECRs to get their work published. The date is TBD.

International conference for early career researchers in regulatory governance (online). The Early Career Network (ECN) of the ECPR Standing Group on Regulatory Governance (RegGov) is organising an online conference for early career researchers. The conference will take place on Monday, 7th December 2020 (the timeslots will be confirmed later). We welcome proposals for paper presentations by early career researchers (postgraduate and doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers and teaching assistants, and university lecturers) that relate to any topic within the broader field of regulatory governance.
